Farmington Man Sentenced After Brutal Domestic Violence Attack

A Farmington man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the attempted murder of his wife.

Dakota County Attorney Kathryn Keena says 53-year-old Mehdi Badaoui was sentenced Wednesday to 240 months behind bars after pleading guilty earlier this year to first-degree attempted murder.

Judge Tanya O’Brien handed down the sentence in Dakota County District Court.

According to prosecutors, the case stems from an April 2025 domestic violence incident in which Badaoui repeatedly stabbed his wife, causing life-threatening injuries.

He will receive credit for the 416 days he has already spent in custody.

In a statement, County Attorney Keena called the attack a brutal act of domestic violence that could have resulted in a loss of life, adding that the sentence reflects the county’s commitment to supporting victims and holding offenders accountable.

Badaoui remains in the Dakota County Jail while awaiting transfer to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
