Hastings Baseball Wins 9-Inning Thriller Wednesday, Boys Golf Competes at Stone Ridge in Crowded Meet

It took nine innings to finish, but the Hastings Raiders baseball team took down South St. Paul in a thriller on Wednesday at home winning 1-0. Neither team could make much happen at the plate, with the Raiders stranding multiple runners on the basepaths but only mustered two hits through the first seven innings of play, while pitcher Carter Lundstrom pitched a gem going eight innings striking out 11. In the bottom of the 9th with a 0-0 score, Brady Hendrickson reached on an error, then stole second and reached third on a passed ball with no outs. After walking the next two batters, Xander McVicker hit a sacrifice fly to left to get the walkoff win. Head coach Ryan Stoffel said pitching and defense are the cornerstones of this team, and it showed in the win.

The Raiders are now 5-3 on the season, and will travel to Simley tomorrow.

The Raiders boys golf team placed 16th at Stone Ridge Golf Course Wednesday, scoring 317 team points. David Bauer was 26th and Chase Pine 32nd carding a 76 and 77 respectively, Drew Mamer shot an 81 to place 69th, and Mason Leary earned an 83 to place 88th in the crowded meet. The Raiders are set to return home today at Hastings Golf Club for an 18-hole meet.
