The Miesville Mudhens baseball team got back into the win column with a takedown of Red Wing 3-0 as heard live on KDWA and KDWA Boxcast Monday. The Mudhens struck first on an Eddie Piene RBI single in the second inning, followed by plating two runs in the third on a two-run homerun by Evan Nelson to get to the 3-0 lead. Stellar pitching closed out the game the rest of the way, with Jac Wright going six innings giving up just two hits and striking out seven to earn the win. Miesville is now 2-1 on the season, and will take on the Hastings Hawks on Sunday on the road.
Hastings baseball saw yet another stellar pitching performance from Carter Lundstrom as they earned a shutout victory over Burnsville in the quarterfinals of Section 3 AAAA on Monday as heard live on KDWA. The Raiders relied Lundstrom stranding runners in every inning helped by three double plays in the game, and would strike through on offense in the fourth after a Colton McKnight leadoff double, then advanced to third on a Zander McVicker bunt single, before scoring on a wild pitch to lead 1-0. The Raiders then scored two more on a Cole Werner two-RBI single to left in the fourth inning to lead 3-0, and Peyton Perseke drove in another run on a double in the sixth. The Raiders will take on #1 seeded Rosemount tomorrow on the road. The Irish nearly fell to #8 seed winless Eastview, narrowly winning 4-3.
