Hastings boys golf placed third in the Metro East Conference Championships held Wednesday at Loggers Trail Golf Course, shooting a team score of 303, just one shot back of second place Mahtomedi. The Raiders were led by a third place finish from David Bauer who carded a 73, Rylan Krauth was 10th shooting a 75, Chase Pine was 15th with a 77, and Brecken Fullerton shot a 78 to place 18, giving the Raiders four top-18 finishers on the day. Hastings will next compete in their section next week.
Hastings baseball fell to Rosemount in their regular season finale 6-5 after a comeback attempt fell just short Wednesday as heard live on KDWA. The Raiders got ahead 3-0 in the first inning and second innings on a two-RBI single by Colton McKnight, and a sacrifice fly by Luke Niederkorn. The Irish then whittled away at the lead, scoring a run in each of the next five innings including a pair in the fifth to eventually bring a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh. An RBI sacrifice fly by McKnight and an RBI single by Zander McVicker to get within a run, but would strand the winning run on first to fall. Head coach Ryan Stoffel said the close loss hurts, but it shows the Raiders can compete with the best.
The Raiders end the regular season with a 14-7 record, and a fourth place finish in the Metro East Conference with an 11-5 record, just two games off of a conference title. Hastings awaits their section seeding and placement tonight.
