Hastings Man Charged with Two Felony Counts of Felony Domestic Assault

A Hastings man has been charged with two felony counts of Felony Domestic Assault after an altercation in early April. According to the criminal complaint in Dakota County District Court, the Hastings Police Department was called to an address three separate times on April 4th for a domestic dispute in progress, with the first time responding to two victims who stated 35-year-old Dyllon Umbreit of Hastings was intoxicated and threatening them, kicking down their bedroom door which prompted a call to 911 at 8:15pm. The first response had officers on scene and spoke to the defendant to de-escalate the situation, and cleared the residence to respond to other calls.

At 9:36pm, officers responded to a 911 hangup at the residence and spoke to the victims, who stated Umbreit had calmed down after yelling again, but law enforcement intervention was not necessary at that time.

At approximately 10:03pm, officers were again dispatched to the location after a victim stated the defendant had threatened to kill him, and assaulted the other victim by grabbing their face and hitting their head against the wall, in addition to threatening to silence one of the victims. The court filing stated Umbreit was visibly intoxicated, and a preliminary breath sample showed a .159 blood alcohol contact. Umbreit was placed under arrest at the scene, and charged with two counts of Domestic Assault – Felony.

As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
