Miesville Sweeps Friday and Sunday Contests

The Miesville Mudhens took down the Dundas Dukes in a rivalry matchup on Friday night winning 8-0 as heard live on KDWA and on the KDWA YouTube stream. The Mudhens scored first in the top of the first inning with an RBI single by Lucas McNellis, then added two more in the second with RBi hits by Eddie Peine and Alex Hendrickson to lead 3-0.

A two-RBI single by Joey Werner put the Mudhens up 5-0 in the fourth inning, and another RBI hit by Peine made it a 6-0 ballgame. Looking for insurance late, an RBI single by McNellis and an RBI groundout by Max Gamm got the game to the final tally. Ryan Parker was nearly unhittable on the mound buoyed by a stellar defense, going six innings striking out nine giving up just four hits, Adam Tait pitched two innings in relief, and Gamm pitched the ninth to close out the contest.

A dominating start made way for an exciting finish for the Miesville Mudhens on Sunday in a 10-8 victory over the Minnetonka Monarchs as heard live on KDWA and the KDWA YouTube stream. The Mudhens started off strong, getting a Ben Vujovich solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning, then added three more in the second on an Alex Hendrickson RBI single and scoring two runs on an error to lead 4-0 after two. Miesville scored another in the third on a passed ball, and traded runs with the Monarchs in the fourth, scoring on a Ronnie Sweeny RBI sacrifice fly, and was seemingly in full control as they plated another run on a solo homerun by Eddie Peine in the sixth, and a two-run homerun by Vujovich in the seventh to lead 9-1 going into the eighth, which is where the Monarchs made their comeback attempt.

Minnetonka saw their first six batters reach base and plated five runs to cut the lead to 9-6, and the Mudhens had to score a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Marshall Gordon to stop the bleeding. But the Monarchs weren’t done, as they had a two-run homerun in the ninth to cut the lead to two and had the tying run at the plate, but a double-play stopped their rally and the Mudhens held on at home.

Jac Wright got the win on the mound, while Blake Ritzer came on for the save. Vujovich led the offense with three runs driven in going 2-3, Brandon Lunneborg went 2-3, and Peine went 2-2 with an RBI. The Mudhens are now 18-3 overall and will have a crucial game against the St. Paul Mudhens on Wednesday. Hear the broadcast live on AM 1460 and FM 97.7 KDWA, and on the KDWA YouTube Stream. Pregame coverage from The Jack starts at 7:45pm, while first pitch is scheduled for 8pm.
