Pastor Kompelien Highlights the Annual Hastings Prayer Breakfast

The annual Hastings Prayer Breakfast is happening May 7 at Starkson Funeral Home. KDWA connected with Pastor Brent Kompelien for more information.

We are speaking with Pastor Brent Kompelien of New Life Church. And Brent, I also hear that you are president of the Ministerial Association as well.

“Yeah, yeah. It’s been a pleasure to serve in that role, just starting early this year. I just love our Ministerial Association. I can’t say enough about how important it is to have the various ministries and churches in Hastings collaborating and working together and being on the team. So, it’s a pleasure to serve in that way.”

And I hear that there is a Hastings Prayer Breakfast happening soon. Can you offer some details?

“Yeah, the prayer breakfast is an annual event, and it happens on the National Day of Prayer. This year it’s May 7. It’s always kind of the first Thursday in May. So, May 7, we’re going to be having our Annual Hastings Prayer Breakfast, and it’s hosted at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel. The event really runs from 7am to 8am, and there’s breakfast included, and that starts at 6:30am. The key for this is in order to get a ticket, because tickets are required, you have to get a ticket through your local church. And so, the tickets are $10. Often what churches will do is purchase a package of tickets and then either sell or give them away to people within the congregation. And the reason we do that is we really want to encourage people who are connected to the ministries in our city to be able to be represented at the prayer breakfast. So anyway, that’s kind of the overview. It’s Thursday, May 7, 7am to 8am at Starkson, and here’s why it’s so important. So, one of the things I love about our prayer breakfast is that we actually pray. Also, representatives from City Hall and from the police and fire and sheriff. We have so many people across the community involved, even from schools, school districts, and things of that sort. And then we go through different topics, and we spend time in prayer around the tables or up front with someone leading prayer. And you actually have a prayer breakfast where we pray for our community and seek the Lord. So, I love it, and I would encourage people to go.”

And who are some of the characters that are going to be officiating the prayer breakfast? I’ve been there before, and there’s been Pastor Randy Berg, and he hosts, and he’s got some jokes, and he always like, warms up the room and has a great time. Who’s going to be doing that this year?

“That’s right, yes, Pastor Randy Berg. And then Pastor Paris, typically, kind of co-lead the event, but there are a number of others who will be involved, who are pastors in our community or ministry leaders, and it’s a great representation of different churches and different backgrounds, and so we love that. But you’re right, it’s an event where we pray a lot, but we also have a really fun time. And I think that those who are MCing the event provide a lot of levity but also helping us see how important it is to lift up our community in prayer. And so, it’s a great event. I think everyone who attends; I’ve only heard good things from people in our city, in our civic services, and, you know, around City Hall and then the schools and then churches. It’s a great event to have everybody together.”
