During the council meeting on June 8th, Mayor Mike Gerke read a proclamation honoring Bryson Scott McGrath.

Mayor Gerke stated, “For the city of Prescott, the proclamation of June 18 is Bryson “Silly Goose” McGrath Day. Whereas Bryson Scott McGrath, affectionately known as Goose or Goosey, was a beloved five-year-old member of the city of Prescott community, whose life, though brief, left a profound and lasting impact on his family, friends, and all that knew him.”

According to the proclamation, Bryson battled childhood cancer for 1,027 days, showing remarkable strength, resilience, and joy throughout his illness.

The proclamation highlighted Bryson’s love for life’s simple pleasures, including visiting local playgrounds, watching trains along the river, spending time at the beach, swimming, enjoying ice cream, donuts, spaghetti, and Taco Bell steak quesadillas, and always keeping a large cup of cold white milk close by.

Mayor Gerke also noted Bryson’s passion for life.

Gerke said, “Bryson’s love of music, dance, storytelling, imagination, and silliness brought comfort, laughter, and connection to all around him, even during the most difficult times.”

The proclamation states that Bryson’s life serves as a reminder of the profound impact one child can have on a community and recognizes the enduring power of love, kindness, compassion, joy, and resilience.

By designating June 18th—Bryson’s birthday—as Bryson “Silly Goose” Day, city leaders hope to create an annual opportunity for residents to honor his memory through acts of kindness and community support, while also raising awareness for children and families affected by childhood cancer.

Mayor Gerke officially proclaimed June 18th as Bryson “Silly Goose” McGarth Day in Prescott and encouraged residents to celebrate Bryson’s memory through laughter, compassion, and the joyful spirit he shared with others.

Following the proclamation, Councilmember Dar Hintz addressed Bryson’s family.

Hintz thanked the family for attending the meeting. Hintz said, “Thank you, everyone. And we realize you don’t have to stay for the rest of the meeting. What’s exciting is watching your family be together and continue to grieve and continue to just know that, as a community, we’re behind you.”

Hintz told the family that Prescott stands behind them, adding that the community remains inspired by their strength and perseverance throughout their journey. She also expressed gratitude for the support shown for Bryson’s family and friends and said they remain in the city’s thoughts and prayers.
