The Dakota SXS and ATV Club’s 2nd Annual First Responders SXS Ride is happening Saturday,
March 28. The ride will begin at Stein Haus in Vermillion; participants will cover 80 miles before ending at the Trophy House in New Trier for food and raffles. Mike Dimmick of KDWA’s Motorhead Monday and Billie Dimmick, president of the Dakota SXS and ATV Club, share more information.
“We are having our Second Annual First Responders Ride, and we are going to benefit Miesville Fire Department. So, we are starting at the Stein Haus in Vermillion. Registration will start at 10 am. But then also, Stein Haus is offering a breakfast sandwich for $5 that morning. So, if you want breakfast at the Stein Haus, and then there’s obviously gas at Vermillion Pump, and then we’re gonna go from Stein Haus. We’ll leave there at 11 am. We will head down to Miesville Co-op, and we will have lunch.”
“Somebody’s bringing a food trailer, and we cook all the food. It’ll be hot dogs, chips, cookies.”
“So, where do you start? Where do you wind up at?”
“Well, we’ll start at the Stein House. We’ll go to Miesville, ride that far, and then we’ll all have lunch, and lunch is included in, you know, donation to the first responders is eventually where it goes. We’ll talk about that in a second.”
“But then after that, we’re going to Hay Creek, and then after Hay Creek, then we will head back up to the Trophy House in New Trier, and that’s when we’ll do raffles.”
“…We take donations. All of that stuff gets donated to the first responders. And so, $30 gets you the wristband for lunch and to get on the ride. And then we will donate to the Miesville Fire Department. We donated it to the Hastings Fire Department last year, and we donated $8,500 to them last year.”
“So it’s pretty generous people, right? And a lot of these people won’t be members, but we’d like them to become members, obviously, but they still want to be a part of this thing, and want to be a part of the supporting first responders. And this year, it all goes to Miesville.”
“Yep, and then Oh, and Miesville is gonna bring a truck out to the lunch spot, to the Miesville Co-op, so kids can get in it and sit in it and talk to firefighters.”
There is an open house and ATV and trauma safety training happening soon. Mike and Billie Dimmick explain more.
“The Hastings Police are having an open house on May 12, from 5 pm to 7 pm, and we’re going to have a table there talking about safety with ATVs safety training, yep. So right now, we have a lot of people reach out and ask about safety training. If we’re going to do it, we are, but we just don’t have anything set up yet, or we don’t have any safety instructors certified yet, so we’re working on all that. Yeah, so, but Rushford, their club down there, offered us to come down for their safety training and help out and kind of learn, and then they’ll let us borrow their stuff. So that’s May 9, Saturday May 9, and Saturday May 16—they said that any youth that want to come down and get certified.”
“We had a guy at the last meeting that does trauma training. Oh, yeah, you know. So, if he if you have a bad accident, maybe you could help this guy, rather than just calling 911, and standing around waiting, yeah.”
“So that was Nick Cross, and he owns Blue Medic, and he offers an ATV trauma class, and he’s having that on March, 28 in Rosemount, it’ll run from 9am to 1pm, and it’s $145 per person.”
“Once again, how can folks get a hold of you?”
“They can find us at www.dakotasxsatv.com/events-and-rides, or they can find us on Facebook, just Dakota Side by Side and ATV Club.”
