March 4, 2026, was STEAM Night at Pinecrest Elementary School. Mini science experiments were
made available in classrooms throughout Pinecrest. The STEM club from Hastings High School was also present to help engage with elementary students and share about the wonder of science.
KDWA connected with Cynthia Benson, a chemistry teacher at Hastings High School, who assisted her students during this event. Beson offers more information.
Benson explains which students from the high school stepped up to help.
Molly Myre, a part of the high school STEM Club, shares about her experiment.
With lightbulbs hooked up to conduits, Myre wowed students by dipping the copper wires into pickle juice, lighting up the light bulbs. Who knew that pickle juice or lemon juice could be a power source?
There will be another STEAM Night on March 26, 2026, at Kennedy Elementary from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
