TLC of Hastings Shares about Mentorship Opportunity and Upcoming Event

Highlighting service opportunities in the community, KDWA connected with TLC of Hastings. Aly, client coordinator for TLC, shares about her role and connection with clients.

“My name is Aly and I am the client coordinator here at the front desk, kind of a do-it-aller, and I help do intake with the new clients, kind of anybody who walks through the door. So, volunteers, other staff and I get them started with the pregnancy test, and then from there, we get them set up with our life coach or a mentor.”

Mom mentors have an important role at TLC, and Aly offers further insight about the connection between TLC’s mom mentors and the community.

“We are always in need of mom mentors, somebody to walk alongside with our clients who do the Parent Program. They get to meet with their mentor. Typically, it’s weekly, one time a week, for about an hour, and (clients) earn what we call baby bucks to use in the boutique. And so that’s really fun for a mentor, I always say when somebody comes in, it’s a little intimidating to explain what the role does, but it’s really just getting to know people, sitting down with that mom, sometimes the mom and the dad comes too, and getting to know more about them throughout the pregnancy. You know what they’re excited for, what they’re nervous about, and being there as a way to support them.”

If you are interested in being a mentor, visit www.tlchastings.com or call TLC of Hastings at 651-437-4200. The office is open Monday through Thursday.

There’s a TLC event happening soon, and Aly has the details.

“We do have an event coming up. It’s going to be this April, on the 26th it’s going to be at the confluence hotel, and it is a Generations of Grace Women’s Tea. So it just celebrates the generations who have come before you, who come after you, and who are here. It celebrates, you know, not just moms and daughters, but just life in general, of women and the generations of goodness that we’ve done.”

Aly explains where to purchase tickets for this event.

“So, it’s going to be www.Hastingsforlife.com/spring-tea. This is more of what we call a friend raiser, as opposed to a fundraiser. We’re just trying to get people to feel more comfortable with TLC, know we’re here and what we offer. So, the tickets are 30 per person, and we do ask that (attendees) be 12 years and older.”

Aly wants folks to know this about TLC of Hastings.

“We are here for so many more than just, you know, crisis pregnancies. We’re here for married couples, for first time moms, for moms who have four kids. We’re here to go along in that journey of pregnancy with you, and to be here as a support system. So being a mom mentor is just fantastic. It’s a great, great time to volunteer.”
