Todd Field Retaining Wall Plans Take Center Stage at Heritage Commission

The Hastings Heritage Preservation Commission met in regular session on Tuesday. The commission approved a rear access deck replacement request for 221 Sibley St., stating it will match the adjacent rear access and is not highly visible at the rear of the building.

The commission also held a lengthy discussion regarding the Todd Field wall replacement that will take place during the Hwy 61 Reconstruction Project.

Representatives from the MnDOT presented retaining wall options for stained concrete form liner and stone veneer, along with aluminum picket/ wrought iron style and chainlink fencing.

Among proposals presented to the commission included:

  • Move the sidewalk up to the existing retaining wall along 601 Vermillion St

  • Remove eight feet of the southern retaining wall at 920 Vermillion St and add a perpendicular wall along Vermillion St. to pull the sidewalk and traffic light away from the street corner

  • Tunnel entrance materials and design
