United Way Of Hastings Shares About 2026 Initiatives

The United Way in Hastings is looking towards improving multiple projects and initiatives in 2026, in addition to adding new programs with new leadership and ideas in the community.

United Way Director Theresa Chatelle said their Food for Kids program continues and they are looking to possibly upgrade that and deal with a growing need, and stocking the closets in local schools with items kids may need is also a big priority.

“We’ve given out $4,000 just this year alone in asks for that closet in all the schools for specific needs of items kids are needing and asking for from their school. So that’s huge behind the scenes. Then our Communities in Schools is making a huge impact on making kids feel like they belong, and they are a part of this community, and encouraging them that they can graduate, and they can do great in school with the encouragement of our Communities in Schools position. We’re just trying to make awareness and wanting to get it out there what we are doing, and that we are making a difference.”

Chatelle said the closets in local schools help kids get proper clothing or materials if their families can’t afford it, and sometimes more importantly can help kids be confident.

“That we’re able to provide some of these new items, specific items so kids can feel prideful about what they are receiving. Hand-me-downs are find, but this is a way that we are able to get them some new items and help them feel prideful and proud of what they are actually wearing. That’s where that kind of stems from, just having specific needs and we thought why don’t we go in and fill specific needs. They reach out to what they need, we get the item whether it’s me, or a board member, we order it and get the items that they need and deliver it to the school so that these kids can feel like they are being seen, and someone is listening, and someone sees them. That’s another important piece of this, it’s not just about giving, but it’s about helping kids letting them know they are seen, they are important, and they matter.”

Chatelle said the Hastings United Way is local, stays local, and serves local.

“Everything that is raised in Hastings through the United Way stays directly in Hastings, None of it goes anywhere else. You can rest assure that any dollar you give to United Way of Hastings does stay in this community, and helps the community in some way.”
