Dakota County Prescribed Burns

Dakota County Parks and authorized contractors will conduct prescribed burns at Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Spring Lake Park Reserve, Miesville Ravine Park Reserve, Thompson County Park and Lake Byllesby Regional Park starting in early April and running through late May, as conditions allow. According to information provided by Dakota County Parks, fire helps to control invasive species and allows native plants to prosper. Many invasive species green-up earlier in the season than native plants, so spring is great time to use fire to knock them back when they are most vulnerable. Black ash left behind after a burn results in soil temperatures warming more quickly, which triggers a flush of growth in native plants that will get more space and nutrients to thrive. The exact time and date are determined about a day in advance since successful burns depend on good weather conditions. For more information, call 952-891-7000.
