On Saturday, April 12th, from 5pm – 8pm, Friends of Freedom Park hosted their Great River Gala. This event was to raise funds that will be used to support the educational programs and outreach of the Great River Road visitor and Learning Center at Freedom Park. There was live music by the Tin Pan Alley Cats, a delicious buffet, silent and live auctions, raffles, and even a living historian, Doctor Guy Lafitte (la feet) who is a riverboat gaming expert. There were many special guests who attended this event. KDWA met up with Hastings Mayor, Paul Hicks, and asked him what he thought of the gala.
Hicks went over what he thought were some of the highlights of the evening.
The first executive director of Freedom Park, Maureen Otwell, was at the gala and had this to say about current executive director Jessica Bierbrauer.
Bierbrauer spoke with KDWA about the turn out for the event.
Bierbrauer was getting feedback about the gala all night. She shares some of the things she heard.
