Emerald Ash Borers Found

Emerald Ash Borers are infesting Dakota County ash trees. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture confirmed last week that the invasive species has been found during a routine inspection in trees at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan. Native to Asia, Emerald Ash Borers kill trees by boring into the trunks and draining the trees of their nutrients. As a consequence of the discovery, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture has put a quarantine on hardwood firewood, ash trees and ash tree limbs from Dakota County. The state prohibits any moving of ash wood past county borders in an effort to protect Minnesota’s more than one billion ash trees.
