Body Cameras Coming to Hastings Police

The Hastings City Council has approved implementation of a body camera pilot program for the Hastings Police Department. Hastings Police Chief Bryan Schafer, who gave a presentation to the council on the benefits of body cameras, spoke to KDWA before the meeting about his enthusiasm for the program.

Hastings would join Burnsville, Farmington, Brooklyn Park and Duluth as the only Minnesota cities with police currently using body cameras. Burnsville Police Chief Eric Gieseke, who also spoke to the council, gave his endorsement of the new technology.

Chief Schafer plans to start the pilot program early this spring with full implementation by 2016.
