Thefts of opportunity are on the rise along with the spring temperatures. In a reminder to KDWA listeners, open windows, unlocked doors and truck tailgates, in addition to personal valuables left in plain sight are all invitations to break-ins and thefts. Local law enforcement is following up on several recent thefts at the Ford Dealership. And this type of crime is more prevalent as the cost of repair and replacement continues to rise. The best defense against this type of crime is to use common sense practices such as removing valuables from view when leaving your car or truck, locking doors and putting up windows and securing tailgates and hitches with locking devices at all times. Anyone having information about recent thefts can report them anonymously using the text-tip program. Use the word “Hastings” followed by your tip to 847-411. You can also contact the non-emergency number for Hastings Police at 651-480-2300.
