The Anniversary Concert held on Sunday received a visit by Mayor Paul Hicks as he presented Director Jim Jacobsen with the official proclamation that honored the River Valley Band by declaring Sunday, Feb 2nd 2016 as River Valley Band day in Hastings. The event was held at the Hastings Arts Center with a large audience assembled to celebrate the fifth anniversary of this community band. All ages and experiences combine for weekly practices and the group was joined by vocalist Kathleen Hanson who performed several Irish selections in honor of co-founder Karen Banaszewski. As a special feature, the bell in the steeple was rung following the proclamation.
