Liquor License Amendment Considered

One of the items on the agenda for the August 1st meeting of the Hastings City Council is a 2nd reading and public hearing of the intention to amendment to city code to allow individuals that are not currently United States citizens to hold a city liquor license. The code would be changed to allow for application of an available license to be made by persons who do not possess US Citizenship or alien residency. The proposal is in reaction to other metro municipalities who have experienced constitutional questions on the matter, and their response to remove such language due to lack of enforcability. It was not known at the time of this writing the current number, if any, of open liquor licenses available in the city.. Also in the consent agenda is the first reading and setting of a public hearing for the City of Hastings to Opt out of the State Statue allowing for Temporary Family Health Care Dwellings, as discussed at the last City Planning Commission meeting.
