Prepare For Weather Alerts

The first snow of the season brings a timely reminder from the city of Hastings who advises residents and visitors they can avoid a Parking Ticket with help from the Alerts that can be sent to your phone when a snow emergency has been posted. A Snow Emergency automatically goes into effect when 2 or more inches of snow has fallen. Vehicles must be moved off the street until the road has been cleared from curb to curb ensuring that streets can be cleared efficiently, and both traffic and emergency responders are able to pass safely. Public works note that when plows have to go around a vehicle, it creates a windrow that can get packed down and frozen. These make future cleanup efforts very challenging. It also requires crews to make a second pass costing more time and taxpayer dollars.
Sign up for the Nixle Alert system by texting HMNSNOW to 888777.
