Pine Bend Program Wins Regional Emmy

An episode of Into the Outdoors featuring Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery won a regional Emmy award at a ceremony in Chicago on Saturday, December 3. Presented by the Chicago/Midwest National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the award recognized the series for Outstanding Achievement for Children/Youth/Teen Programming. Into the Outdoors is an educational television series for students and the
30-minute episode entitled Decoding the Science of Crude Oil,shows the inner workings of one of the nations largest and most complex oil refineries and how science is used every day to produce and transport the fuels and other products people depend on. Flint Hills Resources engineers, scientists, and project managers are featured in the program, which airs regularly on 22 television stations throughout the Midwest.The program is hosted by local students and Geoff Glasrud, the refinerys vice president and manufacturing manager, expressed his congratulations on the opportunity to empower these young people to show the use of science and their success in bringing this story to a wider audience.
