Mayor Makes Water Challenge

The National Mayor’s challenge for Water Conservation will involve Hastings,and Mayor Paul Hicks who will join mayors across the country in asking residents to make a long-term commitment to manage water resources more wisely. The annual challenge is held for the month of April and is a reflection on which leaders can best inspire their resident to make a series of informative and easy to follow online pledges.

By saving water, everyone benefits from the savings of energy, money and most importantly, valuable resources. Last year, resident from more than 4,800 cities in all 50 states pledged to reduce their annual consumption of freshwater by a combined 2.2 billion gallons. In addition, participants reduced wasted sent to landfills by 52 million pounds and prevented more that 114,000 pounds of hazardous waste from entering the watersheds.

Besides the community pride in helping to save resources, other benefits will be won by participants including a $5,000 credit toward home utility payments, water saving fixtures and hundreds of other prizes.
