The Arts movement in Hastings continues to gain momentum, from the formation of the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council and Black Dirt Theater, to the grand opening of the Hastings Arts Center and the ArtSpace Hastings River Lofts, a 37-unit live/work complex for artists and their families located in downtown Hastings near the Mississippi River. The City of Hastings recognizes this energy and the City Council approved plans for a Public Art Grant pilot program to support public art that is free and accessible to everyone. The initial wave of funding for this program ran through December of 2017. The Public Art Task Force is now accepting proposals for an external wall mural, to be located on the north-facing wall of Hastings Family Service, located at 301 Second Street East. The theme of the project is “Our Growing Diversity: Welcoming the Future”. Interested artists should review the Call for Art and mural specifications, which can be found at HastingsMN.gov. The deadline for entries is Friday, December 6th, at 4:30 PM.
