Mayor Pens Open Letter

Hastings Mayor Mary Fasbender has issued a letter to the Citizens of Hastings after attending an open conversation with residents and police, organized by THRIVE of Hastings and IDEA (the Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Alliance). In her letter, posted on social media, Mayor Fasbender stated, “It was disturbing to hear about some of the negative encounters members of our minority community have experienced while living here. Through this narrative, I gained a better understanding of the issues surrounding race/diversity and acknowledge we have work to do in our community to bring awareness and change. We will not condone the behavior that is considered morally wrong or offensive to this city”, adding, “As your Mayor I have great compassion for our community. I will continue to participate in implicit bias training to understand more about my personal lens and viewpoint, and to listen to all voices in our community. It is my goal and belief that Hastings is and can be welcoming to all. Our support for each other is what makes us truly great.” The complete letter is available by a link posted here.
