Several area fire departments responded to a garage fire on Friday afternoon in the east side of Newport. Units from Newport, Cottage Grove, St. Paul Park, and Washington County Deputies responded to the blaze, and the Newport Department reports that the attached garage of the residence is a complete loss, however crews were able to save the main structure of the house. Authorities also report that there were no injuries in the incident.
