Transport Tax Increases Sought

On April 6, Minnesota House Democrats unveiled a comprehensive funding proposal that’s designed to fund Minnesota’s transportation needs for the next two years. According to State Representative Tony Jurgens (R-Cottage Grove) that plan would force drivers to pay more at the pump and elsewhere. He said that, “Raising the gasoline tax has been very unpopular with Minnesotans in the past as they hurt our lowest-income residents the most.” Jurgens said the House majority proposal includes a $350 million gas tax increase, a billion-dollar light rail tax hike, and hundreds of millions in other fee increases over the next four years, including registration and tab fee tax hikes, and an increase to the Motor Vehicle Sales tax.
