The City of Hastings reports that a 15-year high of 129 building permits for new construction were issued in 2021, including 34 single-family homes and 90 apartment units. The Quill Senior Housing Development at Schoolhouse Square and single and villa home permits at Heritage Ridge led the totals. The trend in growth is expected to continue into 2022 with additional phases being completed at Heritage Ridge, the 32-unit Villas at Pleasant and the development of new housing near TH 316 and Michael Avenue. Apartment growth will also continue with another 120 units planned for construction within downtown Hastings and more senior housing developed at Vermillion Acres near County Rd 47 and Riverwood Dr.
