Civic Center Project Update

The lack of a bonding bill from the Minnesota Legislature during the 2022 session has had the effect of possibly delaying needed repairs at the Hastings Civic Center, and the City Council will deliberate the future of that project at Tuesday night’s meeting. According to City Administrator Dan Wietecha, if the City Council wishes to proceed with the Civic Center project in 2023, the Council would need to approve a budget amendment of $200,000 for purchase of relief valves and motor control center, with the intent that these items be reimbursable by future bond proceeds. Wietecha also advised the Council that because final costs for the project have risen from $2.6 million to $4 million, his recommendation would be to delay the project in favor of pursuing other financing options. The complete recommendation from Administrator Wietecha is available on the City website.
