Suspicious Person Causes Lockdown in Cottage Grove

At approximately 2:42 PM, on Wednesday, April 13th, Cottage Grove Police Department officers received a report of a male walking around Park High School property carrying a hatchet and a knife on his belt. No crime was reported. According to a CGPD press release, considering the time of the day, area schools were advised to take measures to secure the buildings and students. All on-duty officers responded to search and assist with school dismissals. Students from area schools were beginning to be dismissed with police assistance around 3:05 PM. As of 3:30 PM the “all-clear” was issued, and all schools had been dismissed. Increased patrols continued in the area while pedestrian students walked home. The CGPD was assisted by St. Paul Park and Woodbury PDs, the Washington County Sheriff’s office, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The city’s public safety Facebook page had a post alerting residents to the situation and asking for anyone with information to contact 911.
