In late 2017, the historic Thorwood Estate in Hastings was lost to a fire that gutted and almost completely destroyed the structure. Since then, the building sat as a burned-out hulk, and efforts to reclaim the property have been very slow. Mayor Mary Fasbender recently reported that there will be an effort to protect what remains of the inside of the building from another winter.
The future of the estate is still unclear.
