The Prescott Police commission met in a closed session on Tuesday night with City Administrator Jane Brand representing staff, and commissioners Cheri Johnson, Ken McNiff, Neil Riley and Bill Fetzner in attendance . Chair Bill Pryor was absent. Commision members are appointed by the Mayor. The closed door session met for nearly 50 minutes and when the open meeting reconvened, the commission approved the scheduling of interviews for the 6 Police Chief Candidates still under consideration from a total of 11 application submissions received.
The candidates will be contacted to begin the process of interviewing , according to acting chair, Bill Fetzner. No time line has been set for completion of the interviews or anticpated date of selection of the new chief of police. In a related matter, approximately 38 of the 5 question surveys from the community were returned by the deadline according to Brand. The survey addressed the public’s perception and priorities of the Prescott police department and were collected to add to the evaluation underway by a investigation company which was hired by the city to determine how the department operates and functions within the community. It is not known whether that evaluation has been completed or whether the results will be made public.
