Former Hastings Mayor Lu Stoffel passed away Monday, April 27th. Stoffel served as Mayor of Hastings for 10 years after first being elected in 1981. She also served on the Hastings City Council for 10 years prior to being elected mayor. Current Hastings Mayor Paul Hicks recalls his time working with Stoffel.
We also spoke with Hastings Garden Club Director Miranda Sieh who had vivid memories of Lu’s desire to connect and involve citizens with each conversation.
Besides the garden club, Lu was well known for her welcoming personality and how easily she brought new people into the fold.
Former Mayor Lu Stoffel was not only a local politician, but made it a priority to help the Friends of the LeDuc Historic Estate. Margaret Goderstad tells KDWA about Lu’s hospitality and generous nature.
Goderstad credits Lu Stoffel with making the preservation of this piece of Hastings history a reality.
