Architecture Tours This Weekend at LeDuc

During the third weekend of each month, various themes relating to the LeDuc home and family will be explored. On June 20th and 21st, the emphasis will be on the beautiful Gothic Revival Architecure of three buildings, the house, the carriage barn & the ice house, on the LeDuc property. Andrew Jackson Downing, the architect, was known as America’s first real landscape architect and tastemaker. The LeDucs found the patterns for these buildings in Downing’s book relating to Victorian Cottages. Downing, unfortunately, perished in a steamboat accident at age 38, but was so accomplished that at the time of his death he was working on The Mall in Washington, D.C. and Central Park in New York City. The LeDuc Historic Estate is one of the few remaining works of Downing.
