On Saturday, May 16th, at about 2:56 AM, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a single vehicle crash on CTH C near 490th Avenue in Ellsworth Township. Scene investigation determined that a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup operated by Joe Hayes, 36 years old, of Ellsworth, was traveling southbound on County Highway C. The vehicle crossed over the center line and entered the east ditch, struck and vaulted over a driveway, causing it to go airborne and roll over. Hayes was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. This crash remains under investigation. The PCSO was assisted on scene by the Ellsworth Police Department, Ellsworth Area Ambulance Service, Ellsworth Fire Department and the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
