Washington County has instituted a new rapid emergency notification service called CodeRED. The system will distribute emergency message via telephone to targeted areas or the entire county at a rate of 1,000 calls per minute. Residents, businesses, and others are encouraged to register for this service, which can be used in case of fires, chemical spills, evacuations, lost individuals, and other emergencies. It is suggested that those who use unlisted numbers, cell phones, or other non-traditional; sign up for CodeRED so they receive time critical emergency information.
