Monday night’s Hastings City Council meeting recognized the 5 recipients of the Heritage Preservation Commission, proclaimed this week as Public Works Week and also received a report on the current status of the EAB treatment progress against the infestation of European Ash Borer. A representative from Rainbow Tree Care provided the number of Hastings residents that hired his company to treat ash trees on their property. 420 chose to treat their trees with an undetermined number opting for a wait and see aproach or a preemptive removal of the tree. The representative noted that EAB have a prolific pattern, can travel easily, and once established, can decimate a large area of the species. He also noted the value and benefits of trees and his hope that more choose to treat this season to stay ahead of what he called a death curve.
