Ahead of the Holiday giving season, Newport on the Move reports that Newport Giving Garden gardeners have generated 1730 lbs of produce from the Giving Garden for the Friends In Need Food Shelf for 2019. According to a post on social media, the group stated that even though it was a cold, wet spring and early fall, the club topped last year’s 1572 lbs. This is their 3rd year at the new site and they’re growing some new crops including garlic, rhubarb and watermelons. Historical data show that the garden club began the project in 2011, delivering 729 pounds of food to the shelf, and had the largest food delivery in 2016, at 2,023 pounds.
