UWH Welcomes New Board Members

The United Way of Hastings (UWH) welcomes Christopher Domingos, Robert McDowell, and Sarah Osterberg to the Board of Directors. From the UWH Press Release:

Christopher “Chris” Domingos has worked in the Nuclear Industry for over 20 years and joined Xcel Energy’s Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant in 2018 as its Site Vice President. Prior to Chris’ nuclear career, he served in the Naval Reserves as an officer in the Merchant Marine Individual Ready Reserve Group. Chris is an avid golfer, skier, scuba diver, and Tom Brady fan. He lives in Woodbury with his wife and their three sons and enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities with his family. Chris is looking forward to continuing and strengthening Xcel Energy’s great partnership with the UWH as a member of its board and serving our community together.

Robert “Bob” McDowell, PhD, may be familiar to some in the community as he is the Hastings Independent School District Superintendent. Bob’s introduction to his first year at Hastings Schools was dealing with the pandemic. His 25 years in multiple roles across metro school districts have helped prepare him for his role as Hastings Superintendent. In addition, Bob has a Doctorate of Education in Leadership, a Specialist degree in Educational Administration, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelor of Science in Technology Education. Bob continues adjunct work for Bethel, St. Catherine’s, and St Mary’s Universities as well as serving 10 years in the National Guard. Bob lives in Stillwater with his wife, Suzanne, and their three school-age children. They spend much of their time attending their children’s sporting events and concerts supporting their interests. Bob and his family also enjoy spending time at their cabin in the summer, downhill skiing in the winter, and when not attending their children’s activities, spending time at home with their two dogs.

Sarah Osterberg’s ties to the Hastings area began with her parents, Brad Brozik, a Hastings High School graduate, and Kathy Siewert Brozik, growing up in Red Wing. The Broziks settled in Mankato, where Sarah was born and raised. She was active in sports, music, church, and outdoor activities and recalls spending a lot of time with her family at their cabin on Lake Francis. After high school, Sarah attended St. Cloud State University and earned a degree in Finance. She began her career in IT Sales and Recruiting at TEKsystems in the Twin Cities. At college, Sarah met Hastings native, Mike Osterberg, whom she married in 2017. Sarah and Mike settled in Hastings in 2018 and Sarah began working as a Commercial Loan Officer at Premier Banks in Hastings. Sarah and Mike will be adding to their family with the birth of their first child in June. Sarah believes in the importance of giving back to the community with the gifts and talents she has been blessed with. She joins the UWH Board as its Treasurer.

“Chris, Bob, and Sarah will bring strong decision-making skills to the UWH Board,” said Mari E. Mellick, CAE, Executive Director. “They will help implement UWH’s new vision plan as UWH partners with the Hastings School District, Communities in Schools Twin Cities, and other local organizations to impact youth and families in our area.”

The UWH is an independent United Way that has worked for nearly 60 years serving Hastings and the surrounding rural communities within Independent School District #200.
