As previously reported by KDWA News, a book available to students in the ISD 200 system, titled “Gender Queer: a Memoir”, by Maia Kobabe, is becoming an issue in Hastings, as to whether the book, because of its reported inclusion of explicit drawings of sexual activity, should be available to school-aged children. KDWA reached out to each of the School Board candidates for their response to the issue. Mark Zuzek talked about two points with the issue.
Todd Kullmann also has concerns about the presentation of the material.
Candidate Pam Onnen commented on the intended target audience of the book.
A School Board Special Election Forum will be recorded in studio at HCTV and broadcast on Thursday, October 27th.
