The Cannon Falls FFA performed admirably at a recent competition, as the crops team won the Region 8 crops contest held March 6 at Winona Technical College. The team finished first out of nine teams in the event. The 2023 crops contest involved three grain grading problems: the identification of 75 samples including crop, weed seeds and plants, agronomic insects and crop diseases; a soils practicum; an insect practicum; a grain analysis practicum; and a management test on barley and soybean production. Cannon Falls students dominated the top five. Lucas Erickson (parents Jeff and Monica Erickson) took first, Cameron Addington (parents Matt and Leah Addington) second, Gideon Anderson (parents Tim and Heidi Anderson) third; and Ryan Johnson (parents Dale and Nancy Johnson) fourth. Madison Dettman (parents Robert and Ashley Dettman) finished 12th. The top seven teams move on to the state FFA contest April 23-25.
