At a special meeting on Wednesday, May 10th, the Hastings School Board selected six semi-finalists to interview for the school district’s superintendent position. The semi-finalists are La Shawn Ray, Executive Director, Hiawatha Academies, Minneapolis, Dr. Kent Mutchler, Superintendent, Geneva Community School District, Geneva, IL, Dr. Michelle Mortenson, Superintendent, Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Public Schools, Buffalo Lake, MN, Dr. Brenda Lewis, Assistant Superintendent, Grand Forks Public Schools, Grand Forks, ND, Dr. Tamara Champa, Superintendent, Pine Island Schools, Pine Island, MN, and Dr. John Bezek, Principal, Prior Lake Public Schools, Savage, MN. Shortly after the meeting, Candidate Mortenson withdrew her name for consideration, citing accepting another job offer. Dr. Lewis has also been removed from the candidate list. The semi-finalists were selected from a pool of 11 applicants based on criteria established by the school board and input received from the stakeholder survey. The school board has scheduled interviews for the semi-finalists beginning at 11 AM, on Tuesday, May 16th. All interviews will be held in Hastings District Office Conference Room A and are open to the public.
