The Monday evening Hastings City Council meeting centered almost completely around the second reading and possible adoption of amendments to the City’s Charitable Gambling ordinances. Assistant City Administrator Kelly Murtaugh summarized the measure.
She also emphasized what portion of the gambling proceeds are taxed.
The Council heard from 5 members of the Community expressing concerns about the increase of fees to the City for charitable gambling operations. The Council discussed the proposed amendments to the ordinance, with further discussion about support for an alternate ordinance with no increase in trade area expenditures, no charitable contribution, support changes in investigation fees, support language updates. The Council voted in a 4 to 3 split, with Council members Pemble, Lund, Folch against, to table the ordinance amendments for further review by the Administration Committee.
