15th Street House Fire

Monday a major house fire at 15th and Highland Streets, brought in mutual aid from surrounding communities. The fire apparently started in the garage. Stay tuned to KDWA for more details as they become more available.

St. Philip’s Pastor Ed Frederick Passed Away

As reported earlier this week on KDWA, here’s an update to the passing of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church’s Senior Pastor Rev. Ed Frederick. Pastor Ed passed away early Sunday, June 1st, peacefully in his sleep at his residence, after a long battle with cancer. He was diagnosed with lung cancer, which spread to his brain. …

Two Hastings Seniors Awarded Discovery Scholarships

Two Hastings High School seniors, Mark Huneke and Brendan McCabe, were recently awarded Discovery Scholarships from Flint Hills Resources. They are 2 of 26 students from 13 schools in Dakota and Washington counties to receive a $2,500 scholarship for the 2014-2015 school year. They were chosen based on demonstrated leadership, entrepreneurial skills, and academic performance. …
