Dakota County Sheriff’s Office Warns Community of Overdose Increase

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office put out an overdose alert on Wednesday.

For community safety, the Dakota County Drug Task Force is warning the community about the increase in fatal and non-fatal fentanyl overdoses over the past week. According to the alert, this increase may indicate a higher presence of fentanyl in the local drug supply.

Fentanyl can also be combined with other drugs, such as cocaine and methamphetamine. The recreational use of these drugs can carry a severe risk.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office wants you to know the signs of opioid overdose:

– Slow, irregular, or stopped breathing.

– Unresponsiveness

– Blue or darkened lips and fingernails, or gray or ashen skin tone.

Protect yourself or others:

– Carry naloxone, also known as Narcan, and know how to use it.

– Call 911 immediately if an overdose is suspected.

According to the alert, naloxone can reverse an opioid overdose if given in time. Free naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and health services are available across Minnesota.
