A better look at a few of the consent agenda items
The resolution authorizing the monetary donation to the fire department from the Cannon Falls Fire Department Relief Association. Some background information: according to the City of Cannon Falls, the Cannon Falls Fire Department Relief Association made an estimated $101,000 donation to the fire department. The request is to accept this donation and for the funds to be used towards non-budgeted items and for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
The Greater Minnesota Small Cities Housing Aid Grant Program application
Some background on this consent agenda item. The Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity is looking to partner with the City of Cannon Falls to jointly apply for the Greater Minnesota Small Cities, Tier II, Housing Aid Grant Program from Minnesota Housing. For populations of 10,000 or less and located outside of the seven-county metro area for affordable housing, this grant is an available resource.
The Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity will seek $75,000 from the estimated $1.1 million in state funds available for the construction cost of an affordable home built in Cannon Falls for an eligible family.
Matching funds are not required in obtaining this grant, and it is paid as a reimbursable grant. If the City of Cannon Falls is chosen, the City would receive the fiscal agent of funds, and Habitat for Humanity would then provide receipts up to $75,000 to the City of Cannon Falls as proof to seek reimbursement from the State.
Applications are due January 23rd, and the awards will be revealed in May 2026.
The approval of cancellation of the February 3rd Cannon Falls City Council meeting
The reason for this cancellation is due to the caucus being held on February 3rd. The meeting could have been moved or canceled, but city staff recommend canceling the City Council meeting. The only Cannon Falls City Council meeting for the month of February would be on February 17th.
