At the January 28th Hastings School Board meeting, there were eight students recognized in the
Raider Spotlight.
Hastings Rotary Student of the Month recipients were Sebastian Strauss, Fiona Myers, Ryder Ashcraft, and Bobby Wargo.
High school Principal Scott Doran said that the Hastings Rotary Student of the Month recipients are all seniors who were recommended by staff for outstanding performance. Hastings Rotary Club member Abby Meyers listed the Rotary student criteria, such as getting involved in various school groups, taking a leadership role among peers, and diligently working towards success for themselves and others.
“Service above self” is the Rotary Club motto.
Each Rotary Student of the Month received a $250 check to be used to further their education after high school.
Boddy Wargo, one of the Hastings Rotary students of the month, shared a bit about himself. Trap, archery, and golf are a few of the sports he’s involved with. After high school he plans to be an electrician and would like to attend DCTC. In the meantime, he’s looking for an electrician apprenticeship.
In the Minnesota State High School League Recognition, Principal Doran presented the ExCEL and Triple “A” award winners.
The Triple “A” award winners are Josephine Baur and Parker Stoltz.
The ExCEL award winners are Maddie Paulson and Eli Handrich. ExCEL stands for Excellence in Community Education and Leadership. ExCel is a program exclusively designed for juniors in high school who excel at leadership qualities and serve in their community.
Handrich attended the meeting, and Principal Doran pointed out that Handrich has two letters in tennis, as well as a 3.99 GPA. Handrich is a part of the National Honors Society, active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and volunteers at Hastings Family Service.
Eli looks forward to starting cross country and is trying out show choir for the first time this year. He sees his junior high school year as a great time to be a part of new things. His future plans are to attend Florida Gulf Coast University to minor in nutrition and major in exercise science. Handrich has his sights set on being an athletic trainer.
Congratulations to Raider Spotlight students!
