There was a report that Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE, was in Hastings on
Monday. KDWA connected with Hastings Police Chief Dave Wilske to verify the claim.
The City of Hastings released a statement on Monday regarding ICE activity. And to the public, Police Chief Wilske reiterates the role of the police department.
With the talk of ICE since the beginning of Operation Metro Surge in December, there have been claims that students are staying home from school. KDWA inquired with Hastings Superintendent Dr. Wehrkamp Herman if there is an increase of absent students in the ISD 200 District.
Dr. Wehrkamp Herman replied through email, saying, “Our attendance for Dec. & Jan. this school year is consistent with the same months last school year.”
