The Hastings boys hockey team survived and advanced as they took down South St. Paul 1-0 in the section quarterfinal round Thursday evening as heard live on KDWA. A scoreless first period led to a physical second where the Raiders offense woke up, earning a goal by Finn Zaruba to take a 1-0 lead into the third. The Raiders then withstood a constant barrage of shots on goal by the Packers but they were unable to get by Hastings goaltender Charlie Stoffel. Raiders head coach Matt Klein said Stoffel was stellar in goal, and a huge reason why the Raiders season is continuing next Tuesday.
Hastings advances to the section semifinals where they take on top seeded Mahtomedi on Tuesday.
