Drivers in Dakota County can expect major road construction along Highway 50 starting mid-summer.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says a nine-million-dollar project will run from July through fall of 2026 between Highway 52 in Hampton and Highway 61 in Douglas Township.
The project includes repaving Highway 50, updating drainage systems, and making safety and accessibility improvements.
Crews will add a new right-turn lane at County Road 85, also known as Goodwin Avenue, in Hampton Township.
In New Trier, Highway 50 will be reconstructed between Hinton Avenue and Holt Avenue. The project will also add a pedestrian ramp and sidewalk near Highway 50 and Hogan Avenue to improve accessibility.
Additional work includes utility relocation and repaving part of Hogan Avenue north of Highway 50.
MnDOT says motorists should expect full road closures, temporary lane closures, and side street closures during construction. According to the MnDOT project website, traffic impacts will depend on weather and project scheduling.
The Highway 50 project is expected to improve road conditions, safety, drainage, and pedestrian access throughout the corridor.
KDWA reached out to MnDOT for further insight about the project’s community impact, and we will have that report for you in a future broadcast.
